On Sunday, February 7, celebrities flocked to Los Angeles for arguably the biggest night of the year—the 92nd annual Academy Awards, also known by as plebes as The Oscars. Last night’s guest list was filled with A-list celebrities and they were all dressed and coiffed to impress. While music award shows are all about showing off your most outrageous styles, award shows like the Oscars are all about the classics, which inspired two of our favorite looks of the night: Renée Zellweger’s chignon and Laura Dern’s half-up ‘do.

Third times the charm for Zellweger, who snagged her first win for the Best Actress award for her role as Judy Garland in the critically acclaimed movie Judy. Seeing as Best Actress is one of the most significant awards of the night, all eyes were on Zellweger, who decided to keep her style simple pairing a one-shoulder white sequined gown with a classic middle part chignon

How To Recreate Renée Zellweger’s Classic Chignon
To begin, prep your strands with Biolage’s All-In-One Coconut Infusion Multi-Benefit Spray to provide maximum benefit to the hair. Formulated with concentrated coconut oil, this lightweight, leave-in hair treatment spray keeps your locks nourished, conditioned, and smelling fresh. Then, apply Biolage BlowDry Glowtion throughout your hair and used a paddle brush to blowdry your mane. To create maximum volume, blowdry your hair in the opposite direction of how it regularly lays.

After blowdrying, spray Biolage Thermal Active Heat Protection Spray throughout your mane and quickly ran a flat iron over your strands to achieve maximum shine. Next, use a fine-tooth comb to backcomb the crown area of the hair, before gathering all of the hair into a ponytail at the nape of your neck.
Once the ponytail is secure, apply Biolage Texture Sap to the ends of the ponytail and wrap the hair in a circular motion to create the chignon. Use several bobby pins to secure the chignon in place. Apply a couple of spritzes of Biolage Freeze Fix Spray to lock your look in place.

Dern took home her first-ever Oscars win for Best Supporting Actress for her role as a ruthless divorce attorney in the critically acclaimed movie Marriage Story. Though it may not have been planned, it seems Dern took a cue from her Best Actress counterpart, also opting for a simple classic red carpet hairstyle.
“As a team, we all decided the 1960s aesthetic of the gown would perfectly lend itself to complementary 60s vibes hair and makeup,” her stylist and Redken partner Ryan Trygstad explains. “I decided on a half back look with a swooping bang, keeping Laura’s hair behind her shoulders to expose her long, beautiful neck and to spotlight the details on the gown...Imagine a modern-day 1960s belle de jour California girl, spending her summer in Italy. It’s classic glam with a mix of Laura’s California roots.”

How To Recreate Laura Dern’s Half-Up Red Carpet Style
